Electric Motorized Flagpoles
Internal motor, gearbox and counterweight system operated from a wall panel or remote, with automatic wind retraction. From 8 m to 60 m, for poles raised daily or managed by site staff without training.
Built for poles that are used every day
On a 20 m pole the halyard carries a real working load, and on a public building the person raising the flag is rarely a technician. A motorized drive with a wind sensor removes both problems: the flag is raised at the push of a button and retracted automatically when wind exceeds the set threshold.
- Drive: internal motor and gearbox with counterweight, accessible through a lockable base door.
- Control: wall-mounted up/stop/down panel, hand-held remote or building control interface.
- Safety: wind sensor with automatic retraction, limit switches at both ends, manual override on power failure.
- Backup: battery UPS option so the flag can be lowered during a power outage.
Standard manufacturing range
The ranges below are what we produce as standard. Heights, diameters and wall thicknesses outside them are quoted after engineering review.
| Height | Drive type | Control | Wind sensor | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 – 12 m | Internal motor, chain | Wall panel | Optional | Hotel, campus, showroom |
| 13 – 20 m | Internal motor, counterweight | Panel + remote | Standard | Civic building, plaza |
| 21 – 30 m | Heavy-duty gearbox | Panel + remote + BMS | Standard | Government, stadium |
| 31 – 60 m | Multi-stage drive, sectional shaft | Control cabinet | Standard, dual sensor | Landmark, high-mast array |
Electrical specification (voltage, phase, IP rating of the control cabinet) is confirmed against the site supply and the local electrical code before production.
What is decided on every order
Drive train
Motor and gearbox sized to the flag area and shaft height, with mechanical limit switches rather than software-only end stops.
Wind protection
Anemometer retracts the flag automatically above the configured wind speed; threshold set with the client at commissioning.
Manual override
Crank or release handle allows operation during power failure or maintenance without dismantling the head.
Electrical safety
Control cabinet with earth leakage protection, IP-rated enclosure and wiring diagram issued for the site electrician.
Typical installations
Motorized poles are specified where the flag is part of daily operation or where the height makes manual handling impractical.
- Government and municipal buildings
- Five-star hotels and resorts
- Stadiums and sports venues
- Corporate headquarters
- Convention centres and exhibition grounds
Frequently asked about electric flagpoles
What happens during a power failure?
The drive is supplied with a manual override, and a battery UPS can be added so the flag can be lowered without mains power.
Can the wind sensor threshold be adjusted?
Yes. The retraction threshold is set at commissioning against the local wind requirement and can be changed by the site technician.
Is the control panel suitable for outdoor installation?
Panels are supplied in IP-rated enclosures or as a cabinet for indoor mounting, depending on where the client can locate the control point.
How is the motor serviced?
Through the lockable base door: the motor, counterweight and rope are reachable without lowering the pole. We supply a commissioning and maintenance manual with each unit.
